Cool. Way to be the most annoying person ever.

Who the **** am I annoying?

Edit: Just realized the reason you're annoyed. Poor guy living paycheck to paycheck can't even afford a free iPad.

You should really change a couple of his computers to your name! :D

No kidding. When he said he might be into Folding, I gave him our team number and my user name. He didn't fall for it, though.:p

Wont the OS 'be PPC', preventing it from booting on intel hardware, and also devoid of drivers? I know the apps included on OS X are UBs, but isn't the 'core' either PPC or x86?

Intel can boot from a GUID(intel) or Apple Partition Map-APM(PPC). Leopard is also universal as it contains all files for both PPC and x86 Macs. All Snow Leopard was basically a stripped down version of Leopard, just removed all PPC support.

I removed a hard drive from my G5 and had it in a USB enclosure and it booted just fine on my 2009 Mac Mini. I was running 10.5.8 even though my Mini shipped with 10.6.

The border around the content area (just outside the drop shadow) isn't the same as the that intentional?

It could be to do with web-safe colours- when you designed the images did you use photoshop with the pallette set to 'web'? Just an idea. Also, Macs use a default gamma value 1.8 whereas windows uses 2.2, and again perhaps it's something to do with that. I'm stabbing in the dark here really, because I'm not sure. I've had some weird problems with my own sites that are only apparent under Safari...

So when are you planning on doing this? Don't see anywhere in the top 100 :p
and my G5 gets a bit of a rest instead of folding 24/7. It uses a lot of power and am trying to cut down my electric bill.

If i told you then it would not be a secret. I lost another work unit to the beta client.....however i still am getting decent daily output. I will tell you when i am in the top 100......o and by the way i am not folding under trainguy77.....You may already know what i am folding under but if you don't.....I will tell you when i am about to overtake you. :D

EDIT: by the way I may be a couple thousands points behind you so it will just be a long steady haul.

One of my development computers is such Core 2 Duo MacBook @ 2GHz I bought in Feb 2007. I have Snow and SDK 3.2.6 on it and I wonder if its screen is too small for Xcode 4. Is anyone here running latest Xcode on 1280 x 800?

I often feel cramped with 1440x900 but I find it workable. Then again I am also probably spoiled with my 27" monitor that I'm over sensitive when away from it.

I was going to make a new thread but came across this post. I want to implement scenario #2. What mode would I put the airport express in? Would they be broadcasting the same network twice if I wired it up like this (meaning I would see WirelessNetworkName twice)?

put it in "extend (bridge mode)" under connection sharing on the internet page.
then give it the same SSID and security settings as the main base.
your devices will automatically switch to the stronger signal as you move around the house. it will only appear once.
most large locations (like airports (not apple's devices, but the places with airplanes)) do this, and you never know.

that's only if you are using the same flavor of wireless (B,G, or N) on both units, if you are trying to create separate G & N networks, still use the bridge mode but give them different names. (up to you if the security settings are the same or not)

As far as more serious concerns, I'm sure the military has contingency defenses in case the system comes crashing down....

Ain't gonna do you any good.... We Canucks are short on beer (it's been a hot summer) and if the power cuts out and what little beer we have left gets warm, we be coming down for yours! So hide your brews... and head for the hills....

Don't trust anyone who is polite, or apologizes for no good reason - they may be spy... and if you hear the word 'eh'... well, it's too late.... you've been infiltrated....

Biggest military in world can't stop 35 million desperate, thirsty, poutine eating, beer drinking, hockey playing.....

wait one ...... wait one...... hold on......

I've just been informed that Molson's has ramped up their production lines.... you're safe.... for now......

It occurs to me that I see all kinds of threads about 'hackin' or upgrading a Mac that is 8 or more years old so that it can run with the latest software.

It's interesting because these machines are still working well enough to want to do this to.

How many threads do you see about PC users wishing to do the same?

    Food for thought.

Well, it can survive a hard fall of about 4 feet, I know that for sure. I own a G3 iBook without wireless (I'm broke) so I always have a 100 foot ethernet cord trailing behind me. Somehow, as I was walking from one room to another, I got tangled up in it, did a funny little twirly-dance, practically threw the iBook out of my way (if I would have landed on it there would surely be no chance of survival) and fell to the ground face first (ouch). The iBook landed hard on its left side. It was powered on, as a matter of fact I was browsing this forum. The sound it made on contact was horrible to say the least. But I'll be far not a thing wrong with it! When I say it took a hard hit I mean it REALLY took a hard hit. When I picked it up off the floor I wasn't felt like my heart had stopped. The screen was black, all was quiet...for about 3 seconds. All of a sudden the screen lit up and it was right where I left it. I just had to reconnect to the internet and I was rolling again. Just wanted to share that with everyone, for I am blown away that the thing isn't dead. If a moose like me can't kill this iBook it is one hardy machine;)

Maybe it's time to get that wireless card (!

The late 2008 models run with Core 2 Duos, right? I don't think Core 2 Duos use DD3. They use DDR2, which would mean that you wouldn't be able to use it in your old MBP. Just look under "About this Mac" and it should say what memory it uses.

    Later C2D's used DDR3

Unless you've got admin rights on the server - which would let you muck around with the server's smb.conf file (I'm assuming this is a Linux or OS X box running Samba) - there's not a lot you can do.

If this is your personal machine - I don't think you can do much with Apple's GUI interface for this, but if you're fairly brave you can always muck around with smb.conf after thoroughly reading the documentation at :D

Bah, I just finished the extended hardware test, and after around 40 minutes, it finished with no errors. I'm back in OS X now, but I'm using my lappy for the time being, I'm gonna let it finish updating everything.

Also, I checked inside, and everything looks secure.

Think what you want people. But if Sony wins; it truly means you don't own any of the consoles you buy.

I had the same screen glitch issue with my Late 2007 Black model w/ 4GB RAM, sent in to Apple in mid 08 and they replaced the logic board when it was under warranty, I use to see it again afterwards but never since the software updates which improve the graphic performance throughout 10.5.x

Check these out before you think of purchasing a new machine:

    Apple Hardware Test
Run a fresh install on an external and see if you come across the same issues

You can then isolate if the issue is hardware or software.
