I posted this on my facebook. Just to spread the message. I think most people think immigrants steal their jobs, but the truth is sometimes we struggle to hire a local person and then a foreigner walks in with the skills we need, but we can't hire him. (this is not to say we have not had good quality local people for the job as well)

But just make sure your parents carry a document that has details about your name, ssn, address, job, etc.
In case the office asks where they are going to stay, etc. They might know all this, but will be helpful to have on paper too.
Other than that, nothing is required, just their passports and visas.
Dont forget to get medical insurance. Ofcourse its not mandatory.

It is now on a list that sets it up for a voice vote in the house and will certainly pass. Unfortunately though it has only two provisions- extenson of the conrad program by 5 years and an increase in the number of flex spots.
We are hopeful that once the bill reaches the senate, provsions for GC exemption and H1 eligibility will be added on.
If you have interest in physicians issues please join the physicians chapter and help us push for these provisions.

Guys:
Just wanted to find out if you were aware if it makes any difference as to where you get your receipt from-- with respect to making an appointment(location).
What I mean is, would it be OK to get receipt from a HDFC branch in Mumbai, if you were going to make an appointment with New Delhi Embassy ?
Any experiences..?

It is a good opportunity for state chapters. Unfortunately not many state chapters are yet formed despite having 8000+ members. We have members from every state but only a handful state members are actively working. Unless we all ourselves take responsibility and actively organize and participate in state chapters it is tough to use the grassroots level strength of this organization. We have more than a thousand members coming everyday to this site and posting ideas, opinions and what IV should do and what IV should not do. We all can achieve everything easily if everyone actively makes their state chapters alive and participate. If you feel that there is nobody in your chapter, then take a lead role and organize it. If you find that few members have signed up, and nothing is happening, then PM all those that are signed up and start working on action items.

Following is the situation:
My H1 (6 years) expiring on 7th Mar'08 (have 35 days of vacation might be good till 11th Apr'08)
Labour filed on 06/20/2007 , still awaiting..(so 365 days rule does not apply for 7th yr ext)
Spouse was on H4, got H1 in Oct'2007 (no stamping done for H1).
Falling short of 10 weeks to get the 365 days rule
Options that I learnt for me getting 7th yr extension and staying in the country:
Option1:
Convert to H4 toward the end of H1 6 yrs expiry date till June 20th(to get the 365 days rule in effect)
File for 7th year extension based on the 365 days rule
Convert from H4 to H1 and start working.
Option 2:
Get Canada working visa (not sure how long it will take to get though) and work till June 20th there (to get the 365 days rule in effect)
File for 7th year extension based on the 365 days rule
Stamping in canada to return to USA.
(I am hoping 7th year extension can be done while I am outside the country)
Option 3:
Go back to India for 3 months wait till June 20th,
File for 7th year extension based on the 365 days rule
Stamping in India to return to USA.
(I am hoping 7th year extension can be done while I am outside the country)
Option 4:
Leave for India immediately and stay there for 10 weeks and recapture them along with 7th year extension(while I am in India )
Can the gurus/experts please put in any issues I might be running into or if any of the option above are not at all feasible(may be I am ignorant)
